Richard M.
Private tutor in Danbury, CT
Education
Gordon College, BA/Education & Biblical Studies Yale Divinity School and London Theological Seminaries, Divinity Studies I am an established teacher and tutor with thirty four years experience in independent schools in CT and NY and with private students. I offer tutorials for middle and high school students, as well as assistance for homeschool students.
Experience
I have tutored at Sylvan Learning Center, The Master's School Summer Reading Clinic, Western Connecticut State University's Educational & Access Program, and my own private students. I have developed curriculum for my private students in literature, essay and creative writing, and OMNIBUS: a program that includes an integrated, chronologically developed course of studies in literature, history, geography, philosophy, and world religions for high school students. The goals of my tutorials are: (a) to provide students with the tools of learning whereby they may deal critically with the great ideas of literature and appreciate literature from a technical standpoint; (b) to establish students in the fundamentals of grammar, so that they can understand the ordered relationships of its particular parts, and know how grammar may be clearly expressed in writing and speech; (c) to nurture and develop students to think clearly, listen carefully with discernment and understanding, reason persuasively, write artfully crafted essays, and speak precisely. My tutoring can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the student. I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one with my students and being able to witness their growth and development as life-long independent learners.
