Ann M.

Private tutor in Danbury, CT

Education

I am a Pharmacology graduate student at New York Medical College. I graduated from Clarkson University with a major in Biology and minors in Chemistry, Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology. Since I have a wide science background and a recent review on basic subjects (MCAT that I recently took covers Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physics), I am a very competent and knowledgeable tutor. I currently work fulltime in biotechnology so I am only free on weekends.

Experience

At Clarkson University I was an Organic Chemistry tutor for approximately 15 students in a classroom setting and had substantial results as well as compliments from the students on my teaching. My scheme for the class involved first an overview of the material fallowed by the application by the students with my guidance to instil confidence coupled with support and encouragement. For individualized tutoring, I acknowledge that every student learns differently; therefore, I have them take a quick test to see which learning style they relate to the most. For example, I am a kinaesthetic and visual learner; my studying habits reflect those aspects to help me learn. After this I base my teaching around those strengths for maximum retention and understanding. I have been a private tutor for almost three years, where the students showed great improvement. As a one on one teacher I was able to explain the material to the students in a personable manner specific to their learning style. This method has proven beneficial because the students are comfortable and able to understand the material in a manner that feels natural to them. As an added benefit I have practice test materials for Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Organic Chemistry. I am able to create individualized mini practice tests for students concentrating on specific trouble areas, which is helpful for SAT II and AP prep. I am readily available via email for specific questions between sessions, no extra charge. If there is a group of students that wish to be tutored together, I am open to setting up a group tutoring session at an individual reduced rate.
